I have a couple of reasons why I prefer not just 2000s tech specifically, but just kind of older tech in general:

• Varying form factors instead of just being a plain flat rectangle

• Buttons and knobs and twisty things and spinny things I can interact with, instead of just being a plain flat rectangle (I love me some tactile feedback)

• Usually serves a unique purpose and that purpose only (or other purposes are not as emphasised) so it makes it more difficult to be sucked into an algorithmic trance of passivity

• I prefer large + chonky and small + chonky to large + thin, the latter makes me worry my phone will snap in half if I try to take it out of its case

More simple, less subscription and paid extras. Everything came in full back then instead of in bits. Games released back then were final product and were polished crisp and clean unlike now where there are issues and bugs riddled across the game upon release and the acceptance to roll out game updates over time to fix the issues bit by bit. I just like the idea of pressing to turn on console or computer, and just navigate to what I want to do in minimal presses and clicks instead of now with multiple features and things I need to get through to get to where I need to be.

it was a time when technology was something fun, not a place where people doom into echo rooms. And since technologies such as smartphones didn't existed yet, people weren't addicted to internet. There was a balance between digital and real life, now digital life is the dominant one.

Also every device had a purpose then. Cameras to take pictures, phones to call people, TVs to watch, computers to internet. We had many cute devices then, now all of it is combined in a phone. I really miss the old times.

yeah, but it’s worth it to call on people to take back their autonomy. it’s worth it to convince them to stop treating themselves like products rather than people. it’s worth it to get specialized devices so that your phone or tablet isn’t doing everything for you. it’s worth it have a physical presence in real life. it’s worth it to put a little personality into your work and not follow trends. it’s all worth it, and it all starts with a first step

2000s tech had more soul than todays. pretty much all tech from 1900-2010 had more soul than today's tech. corporate minimalism is a crime but i think its gonna come to an end soon however, i think that if wild shapes and glossy textures never left then we wouldn't see it nearly as great as we do now that its gone. its the reason why all trends come and go. we just get bored. every decade claims that the previous decade's style was better.

I like 2000s tech cause it somehow works better functionally than modern ones. People glaze modern tech because "It's newer so it's better" or "It works a lot faster, and has better security." Personally 2/3 of those is a total load of horse radish. And it's not getting any better...

It's honestly both for me. I grew up in a lower middle class household where we were still watching TV on big heavy cathode ray tubes up until we moved from our old apartment to our current one just a few minutes away in August 2012 (and I'd like to imagine that we still would've had those TVs in our home for at least a few years longer if not even up until now if it weren't for us moving), owned many shows on DVD and listened to music on CDs, used disposable cameras to capture many of my childhood moments and took those in from time to time to CVS to get developed, and logged into an HP laptop that ran Windows 7 for a good chunk of my childhood (plus the computer lab in my elementary school still had Windows XP desktops at one point as well). Oh and we had a white Craig Electronics digital camcorder at one point as well for recording the occasional home video that I remember playing around with when I was 8 years old.

From my experience, older technology just powers on and works. None of this telemetry and data collection bullshit that you see in many modern electronics, plus, there's something quite special about actually holding an actual dedicated camera or music player. There's also the fact that with physical media, some tech giant can't just decide one day to remotely revoke your access to the music, movies, and shows you enjoy that you happen to own a copy of (a certain episode of Spongebob from 2003 comes to mind as a good example of this).

Idk it may just be bias from glossy window operating systems being my first experiences with those. stuff like windows 7, some linux mint build i don't remember which but i Do remember it was on my mom's linux mint laptop, an old tablet i had being similar, the entirety of the government pcs here being released during that time and therefore, feeling like such and Looking like such
