Absolute classic. Kinda testing out to see if the Flash BBcode works on posts since it didn't on the chat and if it works it would be a neat feature...

Welcome! (...says the member who hasn't made her own intro)
we've got a lot in common! i'm a CS student too, nearing graduation. have been drawing / creating characters that were 'furry adjacent' stuff all my life, don't really like mature content and i do other stuff too, so didn't like the label / wasn't comfortable with suiting. recently though I've been way more comfortable not giving a damn and decided I'd make a costume of my alien kitty guy for halloween (and perhaps a con). currently working towards making a set of sockpaws for the suit as my first serious sewing project.
anyway its cool that you have a meetup near you! wish i saw public suiting a little more where I am
I think you''ll enjoy the first arc of warriors... idk what it is though, the later arcs, if the quality went down or my tastes just shifted. i just remember getting frustrated at the writing last time i tried to attempt to read it again because i thought it was dumb. i think i was on series... 4?
also i LOVE LOVE LOVE the 3DS even though i dont actually use it too much i bring it everywhere its too cute. its my childhood blue XL with a hinge thats been super glued on like 3 times now that i modded out the wazoo with japanese games i can't read and custom theme i made :) i havent gotten a streetpass in forever though sadly
by the way, are you updating your icon with the current date everyday? if so that's neat - 1 Been thanked

Sun Dec 21, 2025 6:26 pm Hi, it's melo! Sun Dec 21, 2025 6:26 pm Hi, it's melo!
:wavegreen: Hello, all. :wavegreen:
Don't mind me, I'd just like to contribute.
Starting off, I believe it's worth mentioning grew up with access to the internet from the early age of 6. I've scattered across forum pages (sploder.com was awesome), Skype group chats, embedded chat rooms (such as Kongregate), IRCs (Rizon, freenode), and comment sections alike. I grew up with the frutiger aero aesthetic and I would really love to bring that back. To me, it feels like something so out of reach but still very much attainable.
Anyway, I am now 23. I have switched to Linux after 17 years. After a month, I tried to go back to Windows 11 and just couldn't. That being said, I did want some nice Vista-era style for my live background. That led me here, ready to let the 10-yo me inside out again. I've been browsing this forum for a few days, and I must say I am deciding to leave my mark in some way.
I'll try to wrap it up now since you know the story, so if you're interested I'll leave some quick info about me below. :yellow_bouncey:
:epic: Hobbies:
Horror media, sound design, 3D Modelling, networking, pixel art, modding, programming in C++/web dev, gym, EDM
:yellow_computer: Favorite Video games
Dead by Daylight, Skyrim, Fallout NV, Borderlands 2, Halo Reach, Resident Evil, Bioshock, REPO, Arma III, Dark Souls, Final Fantasy X
Feel free to reach out to me if there are any other questions or if you simply share any of my interests. :yellow_wave: - 1 Been thanked

Sun Nov 09, 2025 10:51 am Underutilized subjects/settings in FA art Sun Nov 09, 2025 10:51 am Underutilized subjects/settings in FA art
Frutiger Aqua is cool and all, but I feel like it's been WAY overdone by this point when there's a ton of other settings that could make for some cool art. Me, I think that there could be cool uses for things like mountains and deserts in Aero art, or in terms of Aqua places like beaches instead of every picture I see being in a nondescript patch of endless water
Also might just be me, but I love the thought of a Frutiger Aero/Aqua pic of the deep ocean. Idk how that would work per se but part of me thinks it would fuck - 1 Been thanked

Tue Dec 02, 2025 12:20 am Re: forum mascot reference sheet? Tue Dec 02, 2025 12:20 am Re: forum mascot reference sheet?
Nope I didn't make any but that was my original idea for the mascot:
Archive-Tan.jpg
Because I suck at digital art I asked another artist to do it for the offical art.
Also a few things changed since this drawing: The skirt is now black with green outlines and the shirt has black outlines.
Headphones feature the green windows logo.Archive-Tan 1.png
Art by Mimikitty49
Maybe I'll attempt digital art again soon just to see if I can do something.

It's honestly both for me. I grew up in a lower middle class household where we were still watching TV on big heavy cathode ray tubes up until we moved from our old apartment to our current one just a few minutes away in August 2012 (and I'd like to imagine that we still would've had those TVs in our home for at least a few years longer if not even up until now if it weren't for us moving), owned many shows on DVD and listened to music on CDs, used disposable cameras to capture many of my childhood moments and took those in from time to time to CVS to get developed, and logged into an HP laptop that ran Windows 7 for a good chunk of my childhood (plus the computer lab in my elementary school still had Windows XP desktops at one point as well). Oh and we had a white Craig Electronics digital camcorder at one point as well for recording the occasional home video that I remember playing around with when I was 8 years old.
From my experience, older technology just powers on and works. None of this telemetry and data collection bullshit that you see in many modern electronics, plus, there's something quite special about actually holding an actual dedicated camera or music player. There's also the fact that with physical media, some tech giant can't just decide one day to remotely revoke your access to the music, movies, and shows you enjoy that you happen to own a copy of (a certain episode of Spongebob from 2003 comes to mind as a good example of this). - 1 Been thanked

Fri Dec 12, 2025 4:34 am Re: If I started a Frutiger Aero themed Cafe, Would you go? Fri Dec 12, 2025 4:34 am Re: If I started a Frutiger Aero themed Cafe, Would you go?
Depends. What food would be there? (Aero chocolate ?) How much would it cost? How accurate would it be to the aesthetic? What music? If there's Takeshi Abo and Vita music at the cafe then yes
And let's hypothetically pretend this cafe is in every single country that us forum members live in.
Ooo I see I see. Well really depends on what would be frutiger aero, but probably mostly gelatinous deserts, cakes or possibly if you tried to make it like a restaurant you could use things like fish and all that like what someone mentioned in this forum. I think it would be a funny and clever idea to include Aero chocolate to the menu as well, a simple chocolate bar but seems fitting in the idea of frutiger aero.
Well depends on the economy, but would try to serve the stuff at the lowest price possible while still maintaining enough profit to keep the place going.
I would aim to try make it as close to the aesthetic as possible, within the confines of the cafe of course. I can't really control what goes on outside. But could have a possibility of including different areas within the cafe if it got popular enough to fit in different subgenres to suit everyone's taste.
Music would most definitely have Takeshi Abo and most notably the song LEASE, I had been developing my own playlist of fa songs which I could assume would be played in this fictional cafe. I am actually not too sure about vita music, never really heard of it. Is it a genre or specific song of music? Would be keen to give it a listen. I reckon I could include small bits of early 2000s pop songs or electronic house music, nothing hardcore because I do know the realm of frutiger aero music is pretty limited so it would be looping the same songs in no time.
Vita music is music in the PlayStation Vita UI.
And aero chocolate actually exists in Australia! Coincidentally the logo is glossy and it's meant to taste bubbly. - 1 Been thanked

Fri Nov 21, 2025 3:20 am Re: So I Bought A new NVME to Switch to Linux Fri Nov 21, 2025 3:20 am Re: So I Bought A new NVME to Switch to Linux
That is a very good point I'll have to make timeshift a priority the moment I commit to this. Last thing I need to worry about is troubleshoot a problem that would have been fixed by going back to a snapshot.
I actually already had to a fresh install when I was setting up nobara because I installed the experimental graphics driver and broke Resolve. So I just reinstalled because I was just setting things up, but it was still annoying because I was close to being done.
But yeah I would have switched sooner if I wasn't worried about the game compatibility, even at a limited capacity.
Yeah, Timeshift isn't too bad because it lets you keep everything in your home directory (unlike Windows' Recovery Points). I'd also recommend 3-5 snapshots because I was told to keep only 1 or 2 and it ended up backfiring on me. I also think if you're worried about games, maybe keep Windows 10 or what have you on a separate computer or dual boot if possible.
Good to know! Thank you for the advice.
I have been dual booting so far with norbara on a 500gb drive (for maybe the last month), but I want to challenge myself a bit. It's why I'm keeping the physical drive around. Bes t case scenario, I can boot from the enclosure or I can plop it back in I need to. rEFInd really helps dual booting, or booting off of something else like a live USB.
I see. Well good luck. I'm sure you'll have a good time regardless. - 1 Been thanked

Mon Dec 22, 2025 8:44 pm Re: What Do You Think Would've Happened if Windows Phone Still Existed? Mon Dec 22, 2025 8:44 pm Re: What Do You Think Would've Happened if Windows Phone Still Existed?
My first cellphone actually was a Windows phone (a blue Lumia 650), believe it or not. My classmates all thought I was lying when I said I owned one.
It was a pretty obscure product to begin with and I think it still would've faded into even further obscurity regardless. The one thing Microsoft is known for is their computers and they haven't seemed to have had any luck with changing that no matter how hard they keep trying to, even when they've been earlier to the game than their competitors (such as when they released a line of tablets that hardly anyone remembers 5 years before Apple released the iPad).
Even Blackberry had a better chance of still being around than Windows phones ever did. - 1 Been thanked

why would you want a steam deck or steam machine (aka "GabeCube") when you have an excellent pc with steam on it?
some people don’t have an excellent gaming PC, or can’t afford one even if they wanted to, so the steam machine could be a godsend for them. but i don’t need one, personally - 1 Been thanked
