i can see where heâs coming from, though. a lot can go wrong when users are posting online just for internet points rather than to have a meaningful conversation
I don't think it's like Reddit upvotes too, I think likes is a great way to "communicate" when you saw a post and you liked it. Personally I often use likes when I'm checking the forum on my way to work everyday, I don't really get the time to reply but I still appreciate reading the threads and posts, and showing it by likes

That's the thing, if you can't put a like you're more inclined to write an actual answer instead, even if it's later. And when you don't receive any likes, there's a possibility that you'll interpret it as your post being bad (I'm just saying that could happen to someone). Overall I want to reduce the "social media" feeling and make the focus be primarily on discussions, for me the like button is a distraction from that goal.
I also went on some other forums to see how things run and there were no like system on any of them.
