Re: Audio equipment (speakers, headphones, audio players...)
An update to my audio setup: Bought a pair of Edifier R980T speakers ($99):

They are an upgrade to my previous speakers because these actually have decent bass response (60-70hz), and much better clarity, volume, and soundstage. However they do need EQ to sound good: there's resonance around 120HZ, and a slight treble boost if preferred.
(For a slightly higher price ($150 normal, $112 on sale) and if available, I would instead recommend MR3/4/5 instead as they have more bass response (subwoofer at 52hz), bluetooth connectivity, and better overall sound from what I read. However, my budget is limited to exactly $100, so I went with the 980's.)

Re: Audio equipment (speakers, headphones, audio players...)
I guess you could say I'm kind of a Beyer Dynamic fanboy. I have a pair of 250 ohm DT990s and DT1990 for the Creative external DAC that I have (can't remember the model). There's just something about their signature and being open that really strikes my fancy. On my laptop I use a Soundblaster X USB soundcard, which surprisingly has enough juice to drive the 250 ohm DT990s.
