Favourite game in terms of aesthetic?

Found a cool new game, and want to share it? This is the place for that, as well as gaming discussion in general.

Favourite game in terms of aesthetic?

Post by nettik »

I guess many of you (if not all) know about Mirror’s Edge. I remember playing the demo back in the days, I replayed it so much but never bought it until some years later. It kinda changed my life. I was a teen and the aesthetics made me feel something I never felt before.

Do you know any other games with similar aesthetics/vibes?

What is your favourite game in terms of aesthetic?

If I were to think of something that could look similiar to Mirror's Edge, I would maybe suggest Portal 1 or 2? That game has these white sterile environments similiar to the city, but also has overgrown abondoned lab environments which is a whole vibe of it's own.

I have a lot of games which I like for their aesthetics so I can't really remember them all, I'll list some which I can name for sure.

Cyberpunk 2077 has this aesthetic of a massive filthy city ran by megacorporations and what I particularly enjoy about the game is when the weather turns from sunny to raining. Raid or Acid Rain greatly enhances the experience in Cyberpunk for me, it all just feels so different and it feels very cool to either drive around or run around the city while the weather is like that.

Another example of my favorite aesthetics would be Half-Life mods like Cry Of Fear or Afraid Of Monsters, those two drastically modify the look of regular half-life 1 with custom textures and dark creepy environments that feel alien but homely. I used to play the Afraid Of Monsters: Director's Cut mod and the forest maps were my favorite for how dark and gloomy they are. The whole vibe of being in a dark forest with a dimly lit sky and walking past barely lit abondoned houses or sheds is really unique and I haven't seen anything like that anywhere else.

Oh yeah I forgot about Portal, great game too. But Mirror’s Edge is like “happier” or at least sunnier lol

Cyberpunk is cool too.

Half Life and all valve games around that time are great. Many memories playing cs 1.6 and source at the local cybercafe.

My favorite games aesthetic wise are graphical novels (bcuz anime lolz), but other games which I liked the aesthetic of are the Mass Effect trilogy, which is almost Frutiger Aero (maybe too futuristic though) in some places, like the citadel, I'll attach some images of my own screenshots below.

Ohhh yeah the citadel in Mass Effect is great. I played the trilogy last summer for the first time and it was a great experience. I would even dare to say it is the greatest game trilogy of all time.

The first time I experienced the citadel I stayed there for like 2 hours just soaking in the vibes.

Yeah same it's probably my fav. trilogy. I first played Mass Effect 3 on the PS3 at the time, it was so good, also there was a multiplayer mode that I used to play there too. I also love the soundtrack of these games (which I added to my site music player btw).

Not FA aesthetic related, but my fav game in term of aesthetic is Sky Children of the Light (the spiritual successor of Journey) the whole atmosphere is so beautiful and charming (the soundtrack too !)
Unfortunately this game is managed by an awful company who is actually killing their own game little by little step with stupid management and decisions, but that’s another topic. I’m still very attached to the art of this game

Concerning something more FA, I would say Pangya Portable, I love the landscapes
