If you don't know already, Roblox, the game platform turned soulless business endeavor is also full of not so nice things that endanger children. And it doesn't natively support Linux.
I've found an alternative game platform called Polytoria (not an ad) (I don't know if there is similar bad stuff going on) but it's really empty, the highest amount of players I've seen online at once is seven.
Unfortunately Brick Hill, another competitor to Roblox, had an evil CEO, and searching for the website today results in some weird broken Neocities site (nothing wrong with Neocities, just Brick Hill wasn't originally using it). It's sad to see the alternative to Roblox just be vacant or unviable to play similar to alternative services to YouTube be only about politics or have no moderation.
I think roblox is some high level gaming platform, I mean, there are literally tools to make your own games. But at the same time, I just canât get into the way it looks. Itâs totally fine for kids, but not really my thing. And every time something bad happens on the platform, I feel a little more disconnected from it. Itâs weird, because I grew up with Habbo and Transformice, and Iâve never really clicked with 3D games on the web. But... I guess most people just like what theyâre supposed to like.
When it comes to game platforms with dev tools, my mind always drifts to PICO-8 even though itâs pretty far from what Roblox is.

I used to love Roblox back in 2014-2016. I really miss the style it once had with all the wacky nonsense and the MLG sound effects. The games were fun in them days, nowadays I feel like the games are made purely for money and lack creativity.
i am disappointed in this at a first glance, and it reminds me of many "alternatives" i've seen before.
its like a one-to-one copy, not really shedding much of what made the original unplayable, and not having any touch of its own. same bland UI, same type of games and layout.
it is ok for things to die out. i think we should be making new, better things instead.

Tbh yeah, I've since learned that we need competition, not "alternatives". Polytoria kinda isn't that great, but Roblox is too corporate.
I want a sandbox game where you make your own games (Minecraft does not scratch that itch!), as people get creative and make fun games that aren't usually for digital currency. Unfortunately, Roblox became like YouTube and now everyone wants to make Roblox games for Robux. And every game there is just "PET GAMBLING RP SIMULATOR (vc enabled)".
