First thing that comes to mind are some of these proposed 2027 train designs from Singapore. Which feel like they have a similar vibe

https://www.sgtrains.com/img/trains/cr151/cr151-exterior.jpg
I swear that one frutiger aero themed hangout game on Roblox has you first spawn in some kind of train. I would have to go back and see how they designed that - 6 Been thanked

Sat Dec 06, 2025 9:49 pm Re: When do you think the internet started declining and why? Sat Dec 06, 2025 9:49 pm Re: When do you think the internet started declining and why?
i'm gonna say something that i don't see pointed out in these discussions
even the golden age of the internet paved for the gradual worsening of it
netflix selling dvds in the 90s allowed for it to become the streaming megacompany it became today
the battle over "piracy" led to entertainment conglomerates realizing they could make money off of digital media
youtube's popularity led to it being bought out by google
geocities' popularity led to it being bought out by yahoo
i'd argue there wasn't a single start point but a gradual process
that said if i had to choose it'd be the start of social media, places like myspace and facebook. sure it wasn't as bad as now because algorithms weren't as prevalent as now. but it was when people started using their real names online and were expected to in certain places. ir some kid getting flack for using "pizza" as a fake last name on myspace
I'm not sure how to approach this without sounding like yet another person talking about something they weren't really there for like they were, but it is interesting how things that were once seen as harbingers of doom for culture have become seen as retro classics now lol. I had this same feeling when people started talking about how great and "zomg nostalgic y2k" nu-metal, post-grunge and mall goth/emo were because I had been around long enough to know how widely mocked all of these things were by people older than me. As it relates to this I've seen an image macro where 2007 is pointed to as the year the internet was ruined between the Iphone, non-college FB/Twitter/Tumblr style social media coming online, and that infamous ridiculous Fox News bit with the exploding van bringing a large amount of annoying edgy kids to 4chan. Of course now 2007 is often seen as the year when the internet peaked. So I think you are right and people ignore how all of the groundwork was laid and a lot of this was inevitable in a way even if it wasn't clear then.
Personally, though, I started to notice it around 2015-2016. An increase in online culture-warring, social media beginning to become omnipresent and people first starting to sound the alarm on the negative impacts of it, Youtube becoming absolutely terrible in a number of unavoidable ways, and probably some other things I'm forgetting. As I said in my intro post I was ahead of the game in terms of the whole gen z internet nostalgia thing just from noticing the way things were going and wishing I had just been a bit older. (I guess I'm getting the first tastes of what I described in the first paragraph after seeing people wax nostalgic for 2016/17 youtube of all things.) After 2020-2022 it just became completely ruined, though. At least 2014-19 you could find elements of the older internet and places where sensible discussion could be had with people. And kids didn't feel the need to barge into places online aimed at adults and demand everything suit them. Plus aside from Vine, which was mostly a novelty from what I remember, short form content didn't exist to the extent it does today, and Google was still a reliable search engine. - 6 Been thanked

Added this extension which allows you to send a video link (from youtube for example) without having to type any BB code, but if you want to, it's called [media]. This also works in the Chatroom. Thanks to Tokoni for the suggestion.

Sun Dec 21, 2025 2:30 pm Re: Any thoughts on the Skeuoss drama? Sun Dec 21, 2025 2:30 pm Re: Any thoughts on the Skeuoss drama?
I didn't see the video yet but let me just say this:
I've known about Skeuoss for a long time, being part of the Frutiger Aero Discord moderation team (not the one from skeuoss, the other one run by ashe, which had ex-skeuoss mods join it to expose him), I got exposed to a lot of his wrongdoings, which have been written down in a document here .
Skeuoss is not interested in the community, all he is after is money, which is also why Frutiger Aero is only one of his grifts, he has many others, like Older Brother Core (Obphoria), McBling, ExtremeSports.news, and others. He also published AI generated books on Amazon.
He is a french person that lives in Thailand, probably to avoid repercussions and taxes, which is also another bad sign.
He also stole from someone's neocities website, and used AI to write the other one.
The products he sells are not original, they are sourced from alibaba and are very cheap, he just slaps his logo on it. His quality control is dubious and sometimes items take months to arrive.
That is to say, this guy is a scumbag and you shouldn't support, defend, or buy any of his stuff.
EDIT: I've looked at the video now, and while it's well made and accurate on the skeuoss subject, I wouldn't recommend subscribing to this person as it is someone who was involved into a drama on another channel, I won't name it or what it was about but it was pretty bad. - 6 Been thanked

Sat Nov 29, 2025 9:19 pm Re: Opinions on new internet ? And new tech ? Sat Nov 29, 2025 9:19 pm Re: Opinions on new internet ? And new tech ?
what lakes and patachoo said, but i want to add something else
mainstream internet services like youtube, facebook, google and amazon have been ruined for me. people’s over-reliance on these services have not only made internet browsing less fun, but talking to people less fun, too. i remember a time when my family was fun to talk to, play games with, etc. now all my cousins seem to want to do when they’re not working is scroll through discord and twitter, and i’m afraid my aunts and uncles have forgotten how to function without their smartphones and smartwatches. the urge to snap “put your phone down and talk with us!” is too hard to resist. gift-shopping for christmas and birthdays has also become less special due to amazon, because now we all know what we’re getting. what people have sacrificed in the name of “convenience”…
BUT, the non-mainstream websites are still pretty fun. dedicated niche forums, wikipedia, TV tropes, homestar runner, personal blogs, newgrounds, the SCP foundation, and coolmath games are still here and still the same sites we’ve known and loved, but even better now. i think it’s great that younger generations are realizing that the big tech corporations’ services are getting worse, and reject them to “go retro” so to speak. whether it’s through joining niche forums or returning to dumbphones, as long as more and more people learn to take back their autonomy and be their own person, not all hope is lost - 6 Been thanked

Mon Dec 01, 2025 6:07 pm Re: Opinions on new internet ? And new tech ? Mon Dec 01, 2025 6:07 pm Re: Opinions on new internet ? And new tech ?
Honestly, I don't particularly dislike the new internet but I do believe that the old internet (by that I mean everything from the early 2000s to early 2010s) was way more fun and joyful. I don't know, from what I've seen it seemed like people back then were more energetic and fun, like the general atmosphere was more lively so to speak. Of course It wasn't entirely perfect but I still prefer it over the new one.
If you ignore mainstream websites you can get a genuinely fun experience, keep in mind that there are countless niche websites like this one that still keep the spirit of the old web alive, it's just that they're not very easy to find.
I don't vibe with modern memes and slang, but they're not terrible.
As for social media, my opinion swings from indifference to mild dislike. The latter comes from my experience with reddit. I was a user from January 2023 to December of 2024 and it was a pretty awful period of my internet presence, with me acting like a total clown by making crappy memes and stupid comments. I was knee-deep in the more cancerous parts of internet culture and pointless internet drama, and the fact that I couldn't get my hands off my phone for 1 second made for a bad experience.
There is still some hope for the information super highway, as proven by the existence of sites like this! - 6 Been thanked

Wed Dec 03, 2025 2:04 pm Re: so what are your fellings bout AI.. Wed Dec 03, 2025 2:04 pm Re: so what are your fellings bout AI..
Back in late 2023, I tended to have an optimistic view about a lot of stuff. Yes, this included AI. I never liked AI Images, but I hoped that some forms of gen AI must have had at least ONE good use out of it, despite the fact I haven't used it often at all :P. By 2024, I started to dislike gen AI due to its unreliability and the fact that my comp sci teacher made us use it to try and vibe code a comically broken chess game in one class period, and the fact that it just shoved garbage in the internet. Now, I use uBlock to block out any AI summaries or other AI features on stuff like YouTube. - 5 Been thanked

Tue Dec 16, 2025 11:38 pm Re: The fear of Nostalgia Weaponization Tue Dec 16, 2025 11:38 pm Re: The fear of Nostalgia Weaponization
it’s easy to get suckered in to nostalgia. it’s something i worry about falling into every day. that said…
there are good ways to relive nostalgia. those being bringing things we used to do, such as physical music, MP3 players, DVD, pixel art in video games, stop motion, forum boards, RSS, personal sites and blogs, and of course, frutiger aero, and using modern systems to make them work in a more efficient way, without relying on big tech platforms to do so
the bad way being abandoning any semblance of “modern” media and retreating into genuinely outdated technologies, like VHS or dial-up, and bashing people for still using facebook, twitter, amazon, or google as “part of the problem”. this is what i like to call the “old thing good, new thing bad” mentality, and having it means giving up many things in life
in conclusion, no, there’s nothing wrong with being wistful of PS1 graphics :blue_wink: in many ways, our nostalgia is helping us. we are in an era of taking back autonomy and “everything old is new again” that’s bigger than we realize - 5 Been thanked

I have a couple of reasons why I prefer not just 2000s tech specifically, but just kind of older tech in general:
Varying form factors instead of just being a plain flat rectangle
Buttons and knobs and twisty things and spinny things I can interact with, instead of just being a plain flat rectangle (I love me some tactile feedback)
Usually serves a unique purpose and that purpose only (or other purposes are not as emphasised) so it makes it more difficult to be sucked into an algorithmic trance of passivity
I prefer large + chonky and small + chonky to large + thin, the latter makes me worry my phone will snap in half if I try to take it out of its case - 5 Been thanked

That's true but there are some old things I genuinely find to be better than newer things. Like for example I been learning Unreal Editor for Unreal Tournament 1999, and I gotta say it's WAY easier than any modern 3D engine that I've used. It's clunky, sure, but once you learn how it works it's truly the 3D engine I always wanted. - 5 Been thanked

I like it because its more durable and efficient than the ones today, one pair of pants now lasts 2 weeks whereas the ones form when i was a wee nutcase i can still wear nowdays. Same goes for cameras (god dammit sony)

Tue Dec 02, 2025 3:33 pm Re: so what are your fellings bout AI.. Tue Dec 02, 2025 3:33 pm Re: so what are your fellings bout AI..
"HATE LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH IVE COME TO HATE YOU!!!"
just kidding besides the AM from ihnmaims quote lmao. (fire book)
anyways when it comes to discussion of AI.... (generative ones im talking, not the ones that are virtual assistans,intelligent agents and the ones that were used as tools back then,if you know what im talking about lmao.) i feel pure hatred and anger because how its trying to mimic a human and how its going to make us dumber and replace us soon...
So to make this less dramatic and more polite im gonna give reasons why i hate it (or shall i say strongly dislike it?) :
1 - GenAI is literally making us less humans (the ones who consume it and use it lets say chatgpt ,eugh), and theres soulless techbros who believe it can do anything like replacing art ,theres no way a machine can draw,because is the machine sentient? Even if it was,itll never be a real sentient.ONLY ORGANISMS ARE,not machines created by an evil.
2 - Its literally destroying the internet,a very known computer network,slowly and slowly, it feeds more greedy people and the algorithm
3 - Its going to take us our rights away,call me crazy but sci fi books about AI gave us a warning,not an instruction tool,and many people who use it have no idea their data is being stolen or the ones who say "Oh chatgpt is like my friend!!!" No it isnt. ITS BEING LIKE ONE,like a mimicry.
4 - laziness growing,creativity falling (this is gonna sound shit i coulda worded correctly but what i meant is that mechanism is dying from 'boring people' to the point they use genAI for EVERYTHING which is insane,but infact creativity never died and it will never, and its only alive under who are aware of it (artists in general.)
5 - its shit,thats all i can say, i coulda yap more about it but i might sound like a crazy ass neo-luddite
(Tbh its crazy how computers,what once started as a tool,it became a manipulation,but unfortunately thats reality anything for people just to consume more.) :yellow_frown: - 5 Been thanked

Tue Nov 11, 2025 5:46 am Re: Liquid Glass? Not a fan. Tue Nov 11, 2025 5:46 am Re: Liquid Glass? Not a fan.
It's... fine. What gets in the way of it being a truly appealing aesthetic is the fact that you either go all the way with a 3D feel and zero colors, or else you give it color and make it flat again. If they could find a way to make it colorful without sacrificing the glassy look, I would be more on board with it.
ADDENDUM: If you look at the comparison below, you can see how it especially suffers in dark mode. I'll give Apple points for trying though, because it cannot be easy to make a dynamic skeuomorphic design:
It's not really even frutiger aero. It's literally just flat design with more blur and shadow effects wasting gpu cycles while being barely visible as you said.
The windows 7 explorer icon is a bitmap image inside of a .ICO file. There are no gpu and cpu cycles wasted on redrawing the effects in the image. The icons in iOS 26 are svg files with too many effects that are computed on the phone in real time.
If you have iOS 26, rotate your phone on a flat table and watch the highlight effects whir around the app icons. I didn't notice this until someone showed me. Tiny effects like this are cool, but the amount of power it wastes is silly, just give us a png image with effort.
I am happy about iOS 26, but I am disappointed in its execution. - 5 Been thanked

Wed Dec 03, 2025 1:40 am Nobellium tackles MySpaceIM Wed Dec 03, 2025 1:40 am Nobellium tackles MySpaceIM
Hey, it’s been a while since I’ve had the chance to post on this forum and I’m glad to be back to present with (yet) another one of my projects that might pique someone’s interest in here. I’ve been lurking around for something to personally work on and MySpaceIM is (personally) a project that has really piqued my interest as it is one that many people have tackled but I have, unfortunately, not seen any projects that have lasted. Personally, I believe that’s a waste to let something like MSIM end up in obscurity with no one tending to it or caring at all, so I decided to lift up my sleeves and work on it with some of my other friends.
Alongside my project teammates, we decided on a challenge to figure out the protocol and see what we could group together to make it work and to (also) offer it to the community for use.
https://i.imgur.com/0nEYaOw.png https://i.imgur.com/mkSHoZ9.png
My friend's got good intentions, trust me. He's funny like that :yellow_tongue:
So far, we’ve tested version from 594 to 673 and we can confirm that most of the functionalities work properly which include:
* Proper client patching without the need or use of the hosts file or modifying the .exe directly
* Member directories
* Profiles
* Ability to change your information
* Apply custom song that’ll appear in the IM
* Profile pictures
* Status sync
* Messaging between clients
* Group & friend functionality
I’d say that the project is, at most, 90% complete and we are willing to let people who are truly interested come and check it out, show their support by participating in discussions and listing out any bugs that they might find for us to fix. Testing will not be limited based on “donations” but will be open to everyone with a simple request.
I won't post any Discord links per-se as I don't want to anger anybody, but if anyone's interested in working out with the service shoot a message here and I'll gladly pass you it. :-) - 5 Been thanked

Once the world began becoming corporatized instead of appealing to the customers. Internet became more of a business once everyone found that there can be tons of money made from it. Probably I would have to say somewhere by 2013 or 14, since then I just remember the constant decline of the internet in popular services such as youtube bringing in microtransactions and subscription fees. Suddenly the internet just didn't feel like it was for the common person anymore and instead more like the companies greed for money flooding their brains over customer satisfaction.
