Wed Dec 17, 2025 4:03 am Re: The fear of Nostalgia Weaponization Wed Dec 17, 2025 4:03 am Re: The fear of Nostalgia Weaponization
As comforting as I find nostalgia for these old trends, I have to wonder how shallow for lack of a better word my nostalgia is, or if things have gotten so bad that a time I hated is now preferable. I think it's a bit of both. I know we shouldn't get "political" on this forum as per the rules and some of the things I had a problem with during the 2000s were political. So I'll keep this brief. Take the good with the bad. We shouldn't act like the past was inherently good, so much as things have gotten worse in some ways & better in others. - 3 Been thanked

Tue Dec 23, 2025 9:35 am Check out my little collection guys Tue Dec 23, 2025 9:35 am Check out my little collection guys
Just finished piecing this together :xmas_santa:

Funny thing, for some reason Home Premium was the hardest to get of all of them. Well I mean, you can get it on ebay for like 30 bucks but unfortunately I can't use ebay because their payment options don't work here, and besides, on more niche local websites you can find it for 2 or even 3 times less.
Now, for Ultimate for example, I've seen multiple listings that weren't finding their buyer for months. But every time someone put a Home Premium for sale, it would get sniped within a few days.
Also what I found interesting is that Business out of all seems to be the most common with plenty of really cheap listings. Not to mention the one I got was completely new from a seller that by some miracle still had it in stock. Do you think this means the OS was so popular at the time or does it mean it absolutely flopped?
I also really want to get Ultimate Signature Edition and Product Red Edition but those are way too expensive, so for now I'll stick tp trying to collect every edition of Office 2007 i guess. - 3 Been thanked

Sun Nov 16, 2025 12:56 pm Re: Some More Theme Suggestions Sun Nov 16, 2025 12:56 pm Re: Some More Theme Suggestions
I def want to add a nightcore theme and vectordelia but I think I'll take a break for a few days first so I can get the motivation again. I don't like working non-stop on the forum. Btw, the longhorn theme uses 1 CSS file (stylesheet.css), if you want to try making a theme or even fixing bugs on the current ones, I use the inspect tool a lot, and you can probably put your changes in a stylus theme. If it's good I can add it. - 3 Been thanked

Not only that, but something we have is our old stuff from back then, and it just works. - 3 Been thanked

Hi! I made this in FL Studio about a year ago when testing out the Wii Photo Channel SoundFont, it's not based off of a game but the main melody came from some obscure ringtone I heard a while back in a Computer Clan video (specifically here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TtXknHoeL4&t=766s )
This is just meant to soothe you before your grueling tasks at T H E C O R P A R A T I O N.

Yo yo yo! I just finished my new DS track. I call this one Margatroid (unironically named CTF-Alice lol.) I made this inspired off of Unreal Tournament Soundtracks, and the best part, I made it ENTIRELY on my Nintendo DS.

Thu Nov 27, 2025 12:58 am Plant Life Forum Theme? Thu Nov 27, 2025 12:58 am Plant Life Forum Theme?
To Daniele63, :wavegreen: if you're reading this, I would love to see an option on the forum to adds little butterfly or plant life GIFs around the size of 30x30 pixels to screen wherever you want kinda like those desktop ornaments that Vargskelethor trashed his Windows installation with except ya know, safe; And having their colour change to the accent of the website would be awesome too. (aero red, would have them in a red colour, aero green would make them green, etc.) Maybe even the ability to change the wallpaper of the forum to a custom image the user can upload for their session.
This vaguely came to me in a dream last night for some reason and I think it would look really cool IRL.
I hope I'm not pushing for anything that's too much work, I appreciate the website's design a lot already, especially the Longhorn theme, I just think these would be neat updates to add.

Thu Dec 11, 2025 4:50 pm Re: this might be the end Thu Dec 11, 2025 4:50 pm Re: this might be the end
well i'd rather have people keep using parental controls for these kinds of things
like you just pointed out they're useful for this sorta thing
so i don't understand why the govt is doing this other than to more easily surveil people
plus closeted people also use the internet to be themselves and the id laws risk them being forcibly outed (ik bc i'm one of them)
that's not even getting into the fact that in certain places the lgbt+ community is illegal
I suppose so, you have some valid points. But I feel the idea of leaving it in parents hands to set up parental controls is just not gonna happen. I see that the typical Australian parent mentality is the oh well that is alright, let my kid have some freedom and be happy doing what he likes because I see no harm in it. And when experts implore parents to block access to these things, parents shrug and don't act, just seen it happen too many times, same with the E-bike crisis and E-scooters where kids ask parents, they buy them the stuff because they see no harm in it because it isn't technically considered a motor vehicle, but then don't really research as to if it is a good idea to follow through with it and now we see high death tolls of kids in short time because they aren't responsible on it and end up speeding faster than what they should be travelling at which will require more control and experience to handle.
yeah i think you make some good points too. so i'm just gonna agree to disagree
Yeah same here. I guess that is what makes this all so hard is that there will never be a perfect decision that will please everyone. And I guess that is something I can work around, just hope the method for this ban can be handled better instead of force presenting ID in some way to the government, me personally I am fine with the gvt, but third party companies having my data is where I fret in. I am just glad I was able to have this discussion with people normally, usually when I speak like this people flip out and immediately start calling me things instead of trying to hear each other out and build and understand opinions. - 2 Been thanked

Fri Dec 26, 2025 5:44 am Re: what's something from the 2000s that you want to see again? Fri Dec 26, 2025 5:44 am Re: what's something from the 2000s that you want to see again?
People keep mentioning the phones. I strongly agree here, specifically their software/visual layout. I've been dying to get my hands on a functioning Sony Ericsson or what have you (I've unsuccessfully tried multiple times to revive the one that was given to me as a kid, which I did nothing with but write dumb notes and take pictures of whatever ancient version of Minecraft I was playing at the time.) Maybe it's just me liking to decorate tiny, cramped little spaces, but to me that almost transitional-to-smartphones look on a tiny screen feels so personal and comfortable. Also, the way they slid and the way the buttons felt was much more pleasant than constantly dirtying up a screen with your fingers lol

By extension, I miss blackberries. All my family members had these fucking things when I was a kid, but I never see them anymore. Honestly? I'd use one as my personal phone if I could.
https://www.stuff.tv/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/11/Keyboard-smartphones.jpg
Only one of these is a blackberry, but all of them are good to me for the same reasons
i'd use that tmobile one it looks comfortable to use. Plus the visuals just look fun
My mom used to own a white HTC cellphone that otherwise looked and functioned like a Blackberry with the physical QWERTY keyboard on it and all in the early - mid 2010s (I remember her taking me to AT&T one afternoon in 2013 to replace it, though, which is a shame because of how cool it was).
And I'd do anything to be able to own a T-Mobile Sidekick. I'd be one of the coolest people in the world if I did (if only 2G and 3G networks didn't already unfortunately shut down here in the US). - 2 Been thanked

Wed Dec 24, 2025 8:20 pm Re: Hello! Wed Dec 24, 2025 8:20 pm Re: Hello!
Your website looks very well designed!
But I personally think your console collection is the most impressive thing! It's probably really fun to have so many :) I'm just really impressed by people who keep the good old devices up and running. I don't think generally there is that many people who appreciate stuff like this, but hey this forum is exactly for this type of guys so welcome :wavegreen:
P. S. Btw I myself have only just registered a week ago as well and for me this is my first forum experience  - 2 Been thanked

plus i doubt the state id laws are gonna affect the indie web. since they're mostly forcing social media and app stores to comply with the laws
I wouldn't be so sure about that. Maybe things are a little bit different in Australia (where the OP is from), but I've heard that the UK, which is imposing similar restrictions, is unfortunately cracking down on some indie websites as well like Spacehey. Not sure if other indie websites have been affected as well, but I do know that Spacehey has gotten caught up in their crackdown as of July of this year. - 2 Been thanked

fr like what side are u on bro,are u aganist the machine or do you use computer normaly what the fuck???????? And using chatgpt is ironic esp for custom UI themes trust me one mistake and thatll make ur pc kaboom
i agree but i think there's a misunderstanding here. the guy was actually installing windows vista, not a desktop theme. i only mentioned he was on linux because i feel like the main appeal of linux is that it's more private, so it's weird to use chatgpt for things you can just look up or ask around about. since chatgpt and other large ai companies have been known to sell data. - 2 Been thanked

Tue Dec 02, 2025 1:24 am Re: Help me. (please read) Tue Dec 02, 2025 1:24 am Re: Help me. (please read)
Hello, :wavegreen:
A lot of people on this forum, I assume most people honestly, are using Windows so I don't think anyone here will judge you. If Windows works for you and there is no alternative to it for you then just remember you are in the majority, there is a reason Windows dominates the Operating System market.
I think it can be easy to feel like every disagreement someone has with you is a direct attack on you but I don't think you have to beat yourself up over having a different opinion or using an operating system. There are lots of people that agree with you and who will accept you and your opinions.

Wed Dec 03, 2025 11:32 pm Re: is firefox that good Wed Dec 03, 2025 11:32 pm Re: is firefox that good
Firefox is good. It's more lightweight than Chrome and unlike modern Chrome, has full adblock support.
You can also install Geckium to make it or other browsers based on it look like older versions of chrome.
There's also tab containers which are useful if you wanna separate site cookies or stay logged into 2 different accounts at the same time.
However Firefox's recently started integrating "AI" into the browser, among other things.
So I use Librewolf as my primary browser. But since DRM is diabled & "resist fingerprinting" enabled by default in Librewolf, I still use Firefox for certain things. If the AI stuff is a deal breaker for you, I'd recommend looking into Waterfox. Waterfox is based on Firefox ESR & I don't think as many websites break in it as Librewolf.
I'd also like to add that it's probably better to use another browser for google websites or even a separate app if you care about speed & are gonna use Firefox or a browser based on it as your primary. There's chromium browsers that are more privacy-respecting than Chrome like Ungoogled Chromium or Brave. I personally just watch youtube, using the program Freetube, since it has sponsorship block, adblock, and saves your subscriptions/history/playlists locally on your device. - 2 Been thanked
