I've already been talking a certain amount on the forum, so I feel this introduction might not be as warranted as it may have been when I first signed up, but this seems to be a rite of passage for members of this space, so t'is about time I make one of these.
Hi, I'm December Winterwolf. I'm English-Italian, living in England, I'm studying Computer Science at university, and I don't know whether or not I want to give myself the label "furry" because of some of the things the fandom gets up to, but at the same time I enjoy mingling amongst them when they don't delve into those more 18+ topics. I've heard that there's a separate term for completely SFW furry content called "fluffy content", maybe I should look into that. Perhaps there's a fluffy forum out there somewhere.
Speaking of furries, I was walking back from food shopping a couple of weeks ago, and was walking behind 2 furries, which was pretty unexpected to me. I forget the characters' names, but one of them was like a red and black dragon, which was very cool. The two went into a park which I walked past to get back to my dorm, and I saw other furries. It turns out there's a pretty frequent furry meetup either there or in another part of town, which I find very cool. The thought of actually seeing furries in real life, let alone seeing them meet in a group in real life, made me happy.
But anyways, back to the introduction. As for what I like doing, I mostly like drawing, reading, listening to music, and playing videogames. I'll admit I haven't been drawing much at all, but I'm currently (slowly) redesigning some PAW Patrol OCs of mine from 2019, starting with their badges (I'm currently stuck on my engineering pup's one since I'm debating on whether or not to change his uniform colour... I think I probably won't since none of my other pups use brown)!
I mostly like reading fiction books aimed at 12-year-olds, often involving mystery and action - and lots of animals. Some of my favourite books so far are Watership Down, Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes (I've read up to and including The Final Problem) and Warrior Cats (my judgement may change as I've only read the first 3 books of the first arc, still waiting for the last 3 to arrive). That said, I remember thoroughly enjoying Fermat's Last Theorem, a non-fiction book about the man who proved a 1637 maths problem in 1995.
The videogames I generally play are DS/3DS titles (think Super Mario 3D Land, Nintendogs, Professor Layton, Ace Attorney, Animal Crossing New Leaf and Wild World, Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3DS Version) or Roblox games (mainly Piggy, but I'll sometimes play other games like Warrior Cats Ultimate Edition or Tower of Hell). I also have a Game Boy Advance, which I use to play Donkey Kong Country GBA and Pokemon Red, a PlayStation Vita for Minecraft and Super Meat Boy, and a coral pink Switch Lite for Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Sonic X Shadow Generations!
My music taste is... quite random overall, although I have noticed a trend of preferring music that has a distinct melody over, say, "screamo" death metal or otherwise very "grindy" electronic music. The band whose discography I've heard the most is probably Muse, who released their debut album Showbiz in 1999, and released their most recent album Will Of The People in 2022. My personal favourite albums are their 2001 Origin of Symmetry (has some of the greatest bangers imo) and their 2012 The 2nd Law (overall best soundtrack, again, imo). I've also heard they're releasing a new album sometime next year, which while I'm not entirely sure if it's true, I definitely hope it is!
...I think I've rambled enough, I'll just say that I also like reminiscing about stuff sometimes, and that after revamping my PAW Patrol OCs (or even on top of that) I want to develop my own sort of original story thing based on this cat who was originally a self-insert in some strange world where all the characters of various mediums I enjoyed as a child would come together and interact.
Well, that was wonderful. Good time was had by all, I'm pooped.

Welcome! (...says the member who hasn't made her own intro)
we've got a lot in common! i'm a CS student too, nearing graduation. have been drawing / creating characters that were 'furry adjacent' stuff all my life, don't really like mature content and i do other stuff too, so didn't like the label / wasn't comfortable with suiting. recently though I've been way more comfortable not giving a damn and decided I'd make a costume of my alien kitty guy for halloween (and perhaps a con). currently working towards making a set of sockpaws for the suit as my first serious sewing project.
anyway its cool that you have a meetup near you! wish i saw public suiting a little more where I am
I think you''ll enjoy the first arc of warriors... idk what it is though, the later arcs, if the quality went down or my tastes just shifted. i just remember getting frustrated at the writing last time i tried to attempt to read it again because i thought it was dumb. i think i was on series... 4?
also i LOVE LOVE LOVE the 3DS even though i dont actually use it too much i bring it everywhere its too cute. its my childhood blue XL with a hinge thats been super glued on like 3 times now that i modded out the wazoo with japanese games i can't read and custom theme i made :) i havent gotten a streetpass in forever though sadly
by the way, are you updating your icon with the current date everyday? if so that's neat

Heyo welcome! I loved playing Professor Layton, I just remember sitting down every now and then with my sister as we cracked down on puzzles and progressing through story on the old DS lite as well as the more recent ones on the 3DS. I think the perfect name for the genre of music you like listening to at the moment would be Alternative Rock or Progressive Metal, those are good ones.

Gasp, another CS student who likes to draw animals!!! But yeah, I'm glad you've decided to start making a suit even if you weren't all too comfortable with the idea beforehand. Good luck finishing it, especially since you said it's your first serious sewing project. Of course I don't know how difficult it is to make all the different parts since I haven't really done any sewing since before COVID, but with the exorbitant amount of money people pay for suits I imagine that'll be quite the challenge, so don't give up and keep at it!! Do your alien kitty justice!!pooks wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 12:59 amwe've got a lot in common! i'm a CS student too, nearing graduation. have been drawing / creating characters that were 'furry adjacent' stuff all my life, don't really like mature content and i do other stuff too, so didn't like the label / wasn't comfortable with suiting. recently though I've been way more comfortable not giving a damn and decided I'd make a costume of my alien kitty guy for halloween (and perhaps a con). currently working towards making a set of sockpaws for the suit as my first serious sewing project.

About that meetup, yeah it was quite cool to find out there was something going on near me. Admittedly I've never been to one before (partly because of the aforementioned indecision about the furry label), but the idea does sound quite neat. I've managed to find what I believe is their website and the group name, so I'll definitely look into it a bit more soon!
I have also heard in the past (I don't remember where from) about it on top of inconsistencies with cats e.g. wrong eye colours, mixing up cat genders in one case, etc. but thanks for pointing it out, I'll keep an eye out for it (although if I'm reading the books I imagine it'll be relatively obvious to me at some point). And yeah, the first arc is greatly entertaining me so far, but thanks for confirming that the end does not ruin it all!! I have unfortunately been spoiled a little after hearing the name ofpooks wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 12:59 am

I've been a little successful bringing my N3DS XL about campus shockingly, I think I've got about 3 real StreetPasses thanks to bringing it with me to lectures and such every day, it is kind of sad that they're difficult to obtain legitimately otherwise. I'd play it more often, but now I'm swamped with courseworkpooks wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 12:59 am

Ah, I'm afraid that's just a funny little coincidence - the date written on my profile picture is the 11th of May. Funnily enough, I ended up getting the date formatting wrong, since Japanese dates are written year-month-day, and text can either be written left-to-right horizontally or right-to-left vertically, and since I decided to go the latter route I ended up making it go day-month-year... which is correct for England, but since I specifically wanted to write the date in Japanese it's backwardspooks wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 12:59 amby the way, are you updating your icon with the current date everyday? if so that's neat

Thanks! Glad you had a good time with Layton, especially since you had someone to share the experience with in real life, I'm still yet to find someone who knows the games... but I have a couple of people in mind who mightBingoBopple04 wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 5:30 pmHeyo welcome! And thanks for the genre names, I've heard them tossed about before but never really knew what they meant, so it's good to now have a rough idea of what they represent!

Hello dwinterwolf!
Nice to meet you and I'm glad to see someone else here likes anthropomorphic fiction too, especially such a classic of the genre! Some of my favourite books so far are Watership Down, Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes (I've read up to and including The Final Problem) and Warrior Cats (my judgement may change as I've only read the first 3 books of the first arc, still waiting for the last 3 to arrive).

I know, right? I mean, from the amount of times I've bumped into people talking about it online (and in group chats in COVID, RIP Google Hangouts) and the amount I play Animal Jam (which I forgot to mention, oops - I like some MMOs like the aforementioned Animal Jam and Club Penguin Legacy) where these roleplays used to be really prevalent... and where I got spoiled with that name... I'm genuinely surprised I haven't read it before. I know I would've loved it as a child based on how dark Watership Down can get sometimes.Thloorf wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 10:06 pmNice to meet you and I'm glad to see someone else here likes anthropomorphic fiction too, especially such a classic of the genre! Some of my favourite books so far are Watership Down, Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes (I've read up to and including The Final Problem) and Warrior Cats (my judgement may change as I've only read the first 3 books of the first arc, still waiting for the last 3 to arrive).
