I bought my father a Chromebook because it's a locked down thing that can basically only browse the web, and it's the device I've had to provide the least amount of tech support for so far. I hope someday some solid alternatives pop up, since I don't really trust Google to keep providing support and to not bloat it up.

at best, chromebooks are laptop-shaped smartphones that dont do calls. at worst:


they're tolerable for internet browsing and making documents, but horrible for anything else. I still can't believe these things came from the same company that gave us android. Even android can be decent for creative apps/programs (capcut comes to mind). On a chromebook, decent sites and "programs" for creative use are FAR and FEW between. Do I DARE discuss the horrid state of chromebook video editing?

off topic but who the HELL spends more than $500 on a chromebook. i've seen chromebooks on sale in the 1k price range!!!
