Well, first of all, hello there. This is mainly a vent post, so if you are uncomfortable of venting don't bother in replying to this thread.

I'm tired of being seen as a "corpo bootlicker" just because I use Windows, it feels so bad that I just want to throw it all to the trash and stop doing what I like. It honestly ruins all of my self-esteem and everything smh...

I'm planning to install Linux on my main PC, since well, as I told before, I'm TIRED of feeling guilty of all of the bad stuff is happening nowadays just because I use Windows. It sucks, Genuinely. One problem, I use Adobe Animate and Windows-exclusive plugins and stuff, so that makes me more guilty for "ruining the world" as people say nowadays, I can't stand it anymore. And plus, I really like Minimalism too, as much as Frutiger Aero, and as I said before, I'm tired of feeling guilty for all the bad things in this world, and being called a "soulless" person just for my interests. Talking about interests, liking Touhou is really hard nowadays, people will call you a... Well, I can't say it here, but you know what I mean. I suffered bullying IRL just because of my interests :orange_crybaby:

Talking about interests (again), there is one problem of mine. Nintendo.
In short, I LOVE Nintendo. I love their games, their franchises, specially Mario and Kirby, as they're special to me in my life. One problem is that people will genuinely throw sh*t at you just because you like it, and call you "a corp bootlicker" and "an evil person", as the Steam Deck people say. I own a Steam Deck, I don't play on it since one of its buttons broke, and the only system I play with is my Switch Lite, (of course modded.) I feel like my life sucks, and I don't know what I did to deserve this.

In short; I take other people's opinions too seriously, thinking they are a direct attack on me and therefore "I should follow the rules to be socially acceptable"

How I can help myself? Do people (and people here) will really accept me how I am? Thank you in advance. :yellow_wink:

Hello, :wavegreen:

A lot of people on this forum, I assume most people honestly, are using Windows so I don't think anyone here will judge you. If Windows works for you and there is no alternative to it for you then just remember you are in the majority, there is a reason Windows dominates the Operating System market.

I think it can be easy to feel like every disagreement someone has with you is a direct attack on you but I don't think you have to beat yourself up over having a different opinion or using an operating system. There are lots of people that agree with you and who will accept you and your opinions.

First you should know that nobody has the right to tell you what you are allowed to like or not as long as it doesn't harm anyone.
Life is too short to focus on others opinions so much that you become miserable.

Another thing, using a product does not automatically mean you love everything that a corporation does. A lot of people watch Disney movies but they hate the modern Disney, a lot of people play Nintendo games but hate modern Nintendo. I absolutely hate people who are being judgemental against people because they are using a thing. I chose to not buy a Switch 2 because I don't want to support Nintendo's prices, but I'm not gonna go bully people that have a Switch 2.

The vast majority of people use Windows and it's a fact, Linux is not a perfect replacement and the reason is that companies do not make products for it - because nobody uses it - so nobody goes on it because it doesn't have said products, it's a problem that Linux had since the beginning which makes it not suitable for everyone, I'd argue it's *mostly* for tech enthusiasts who like to tinker with tech as a hobby. In the real world it's mostly used for servers, in fact the majority of the world's servers run on Linux. Desktop is like 3%.

If you want to use it, awesome, but don't let anyone make you feel bad for not using it.

Do whatever you want and ignore those people.

Also, Touhou is awesome.

Hey, don't feel guilty for the things you enjoy. I found out that most people who are into "ethical consumerism" are hypocrites. I've seen people tell you to watch movies in the theater because the director "intended it to be on the big screen" while still using amazon or spotify or google docs. I've seen someone judge someone else for mentioning they used a piece of software that happened to be by a bigoted dev while defending software by a company that invests in military tech. Do I wish more people boycotted these big companies? Sure. But boycotts have to be targetted and on a large scale & aren't the responsibility of a single person. So don't feel bad for using popular software that you're comfortable with.
The fact of the matter is we all have popular platforms we still use & shaming people doesn't stop them from using it.
