Added
this extension which allows you to send a video link (from youtube for example) without having to type any BB code, but if you want to, it's called [media]. This also works in the Chatroom. Thanks to Tokoni for the suggestion.

is there a feature to block this? my computer grinds to a halt with youtube embeds

In the chatroom I can block youtube embeds, otherwise no. Should I do that?

yes, that would be amazing, they take up so much space

It isn't, this screenshot wasn't made by me, I enabled it on my end
