Windows 11 is a downgrade!
Linux is debatably but most likely an upgrade!

As someone who uses windows 11, this is the most accurate thing I've seen all day

i will not upgrade to Win11 until my games, mods, and apps stop working on Win10.
and even then, all of my favorite games and apps are old enough or run well on Win10 anyway. Godot, SAI2, and Skyrim, for example. when Firefox drops Win10 support, i will switch to Palemoon or Seamonkey.
i am concerned about security, however. i think after some time i will need to stop using the internet... or try a portable Linux OS/
WLS. WLS seems like a good idea to me, though it still depends on Windows system updates

i hope Linux enthusiasts will figure out something for it!
i only have one working laptop (and two very
very old laptops which i need to repair). i don't know when i'll be able to obtain another one, if ever.
edit: damn, i forgot abour dual boot! thank you for reminding me about it!

not sure how smooth it would work for me, considering that i'm not really into tinkering the system...

There's one big thing you'll need to keep in mind: you need two physical disks now to do dual booting. Before 11, you could install Linux and Windows on the same disk, but you'd have to do a little trickery to make sure your Linux boot loader wasn't overwritten with Windows updates. These days Windows will just outright blow up the Linux boot loader, so AFAIK it's not possible to have both installed on the same disk. I'm sure there's some way to still do it, but I bet it would require some weird technical stuff like changing the location of your Linux boot partition, or something similarly exotic.
I think the idea of using a USB linux distro is a great idea. A lot of distros have "Live" images which means you can use Rufus (
https://rufus.ie/en/) in Windows to put the image on a USB drive and give Linux a test drive before committing to a particular distribution.

you forgot to mention blood sacrifices and a ritual Linux dance.

but if seriously, thanks for the advice! i've tried Linux Mint live preview once, and kinda liked it. also i know if i'd go into full paranoid (either in medical sense or not) mode, i could use
Tails then

I just got the extended support for windows 10, Will worry about it a year later, And at the moment, I legit spend more time on my windows 7 VM than on my actual pc anyway lel
(its already been a month of ended support)
