Chances are you've played these already, but I'd highly suggest Professor Layton (at least the main hexology, I think Katrielle Layton came a significant amount of time later)! They were released to the West between 2008 and 2013, and they're story-based puzzle games, so if you like solving these kinds of things, go ahead and try it! I will mention that of those 6, only the first 3 (Curious Village, Diabolical/Pandora's Box, Unwound/Lost Future) have been ported to modern devices - in this particular case, mobile - so the prequel trilogy (Last Specter/Spectre's Call, Miracle Mask, Azran Legacy) are still stuck in DS/3DS limbo, and I don't know if you have either of those consoles or are willing to emulate. If that's the case, I'd suggest at least giving the first 3 a try if you like puzzles + story games.
