i agree, however there is only ONE thing i don’t miss about the old web at all (and pardon my french): the casual use of words like “cancer”, “autistic”, “retarded”, and racial slurs among users to describe things they don’t like. that language can stay languishing in the past where it belongs

I absolutely agree with you. Back then the internet was pretty much a wild west, so that often meant that people could and did get away with being insensitive pricks. That's the only aspect I don't like. As an autistic person I hate when people use it as an insult.i agree, however there is only ONE thing i don’t miss about the old web at all (and pardon my french): the casual use of words like “cancer”, “autistic”, “retarded”, and racial slurs among users to describe things they don’t like. that language can stay languishing in the past where it belongs

Re: Opinions on new internet ? And new tech ?
My opinion on the internet now: The good stuff is drowned in an ocean of bad stuff.
Right now we have an absolute tsunami of AI-generated content, in the form of websites, art, and videos. It became hard to use search engines to find meaningful content when the first 10 pages are AI websites or other generic crap that you didn't ask for.
In the past you could land on forums when looking for stuff on a search engine, now it's really hard unless you look for it specifically, which is probably a reason why they are less popular nowadays. That and Facebook / Twitter obviously.
I hate how everything is monetized and full of ads, I hate every YouTubers having to rely on sponsors for their income because the greedy company who makes billions doesn't compensate their creators as they should despite the money they make.
I feel like the internet is becoming the movie Idiocracy where trash (but here it's AI slop) overfills the world (the internet) and people become more and more stupid, as people's attention spans go down and down because of addictions to more and more predatory social media algorithms...
The bright side is that communities of good people still exist, there are still websites that care about your privacy, that don't try to make money off of you at every opportunity by selling your data. The Indie Web, on places like Neocities and Nekoweb is one example. Those still exist but my concern is that they are getting harder to find and that normal people might never hear about them unless we start talking about it. Some YouTubers are talking about it which is good, but I hope more of them will.
The clippy movement shows that people are tired of this crap but they don't know what to do about it, they never leave their centralized websites to go explore the web and participate in or create other community spaces. And this is why these companies are getting away with screwing us over, there's no competition anymore.
As for new tech, I think phones are all the same boring bricks now, but I don't really care that much because to me it's just a tool and I barely use mine. I do love that portable consoles are getting more powerful which means you can now play console games on the go, which I dreamed of as a kid. One thing I miss is translucent tech and more edgy designs.

Re: Opinions on new internet ? And new tech ?
(I haven't read many other replies here because that's a whole lot of text to read, so sorry if I repeat anything from other posts!)
We have Data centers that are literally ruining the quality of life of people in real life, just to host AI junk.
They are raising electricity bills, polluting water, making loud sleep reducing noise, and are giving off a crap ton of light pollution.
The people who live near them definitely did not agree to letting the companies build these centers, and they don't agree with the blatant lies the companies say, the lies being that their water is fine, the electricity is fine and that they get more jobs from this.
Btw the data centers have their electricity bills pushed to the rest of the people in the state* instead of paying them themselves.
These data centers exist to ruin people's lives online and offline, stealing art and text, illegal usages like extortion, and other general dehumanization of, people. These are the same** computers telling teenagers to commit suicide.
(In the USA) you can call 988 if you feel suicidal
(France) you can call 3114
Or find the appropriate number at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_s ... isis_lines
*idk how it is in other countries, but this is how it is in the United States of America
**Not confirmed, take it with a grain of salt ig
